1. Do you believe athletes should be able to use cannabis products in major sports leagues such as the NFL, MLB, NBA, etc? Why or why not?
2. If you had the power to change how strict a certain league was on cannabis products, to what extent would you change the restrictions, if at all?
- Would you only let certain athletes use it?
- Would everyone be able to use it?
- Would you be even more strict than the rules are today?
I do not believe athletes should be able to use cannabis products in major sports leagues such as the NFL, MLB, NBA, etc. because it is crucial for athletes to keep their bodies in the best shape possible, and cannabis products are damaging to the body. Professional athletes are also role models for their fans, so if they use cannabis products very casually, it would make their fans want to do them as well, and result in a negative domino effect. If I had the power to change how strict a certain league is on cannabis products, I would just make them not allowed for any athlete, no exceptions. I believe that a good way to prevent athletes from indulging in cannabis products is to hold a mandatory drug test for every professional athlete once a month.
ReplyDeleteI believe the use of cannabis products should be allowed in the major sports leagues. To start, cannabis is not a performance enhancer. The use of cannabis within sports would just be used to help athletes stay healthy and recover which is a vital needs. Cannabis unlike steroids isn’t an in-game performance enhancer, thus it wouldn’t interfere with rules of fair play. Cannabis has scientifically proven medical benefits and even conservative states have recognized this and legalized it for medical use. I don’t believe it is in the right of sports leagues to block the use of a public medicine, and the real question is why they feel it to be a necessity to begin with. Athletes know what it takes to be on the top of their game, and if they’re not, they can face serious economical consequences. If athletes believe it helps them off and on the field, I simply don’t understand why it is still banned. Cannabis definitely doesn’t damage players either. Whilst alcohol is expected to be consumed among players, cannabis actually can’t kill you or even have any long term faults. It is simply one of the safest medicines available, and I don’t see why it is still being outlawed today.
ReplyDeleteIf I had the power to change a league’s protocol on cannabis, I certainly would make the laws less strict. I would promote rather than outlaw the use of a natural medicine. I would celebrate rather than look in disgust upon athletes improving their personal health. I would try to change the public view that athletes are different than regular human beings. They should have the same right as us normal people, and If I were in charge I would grant them this legal human right, of the use of cannabis.
I do not believe that athletes should be able to use cannabis products in major sports leagues such as the NFL, MLB, NBA, etc. Cannabis, also known as THC, can cause disturbances in short-term memory recollection, decreased reaction times and can cause disadvantages with hand-eye coordination. THC can also divide attention, making it difficult for any athlete to focus when performing more complicated tasks or exercises. Many young kids look up to these athletes and if they are under the influence of cannabis, it will cause a negative light to be shown on them. Their fans would start becoming disappointed in their favorite players, which would make them not want to go to their games, causing a decrease in revenue for that specific team. If I had the power to change how strict a certain league is on cannabis products, I would make there be a no tolerance for athletes using THC. I feel that this is a good way to keep athletes out of trouble and to make them look like stars in their fans eyes.
ReplyDeleteI think cannabis should be treated like alcohol is treated in major league sports, specifically if the drug is legal in the state that the player is using it or if they are using it for medical reasons. If the drug is being used illegally then that because an issue with the law and should be punished by the league like other illegal acts are. I don't think it is the league's place to say what is right or wrong they should abide by the laws and allow their players to do as they please. If I had the power to create rules regarding cannabis I would allow any players with a medical card to use it and allow players to use it recreationally if they were in a state that allowed that. I would also allow coaches to punish players if they were to do it while the player was on a road game in a state that allowed it if it would negatively affect their performance. I would definitely not be as strict I think the rules should follow the laws and it is not the leagues place to punish people based on their actions on that front.
ReplyDeleteI don't think that cannabis products should be used in leagues such as the NFL, MLB, NBA. These products have been illegal for so long and drug tests have banned so many athletes from playing. I don't agree with Max with how "cannabis should be treated like alcohol in major league sports", I think athletes should be able to drink and celebrate after a big win. They are adults and legally allowed to drink so they can do that but cannabis are illegal. The restrictions against cannabis should be high and bounding, if one sport can't use it I don't think that any sport should be able to use it. I overall agree with Sam Pacilo that there should be consistent drug test and regulating the cannabis use by major league players.
ReplyDeleteI believe that cannabis should be allowed in sports in certain cases. If the drug is not legalized in the state then players should not be able to do it. Also, cannabis is not a performance enhancing drug. The players should be able to use cannabis with a medical card or if the state permits it, they can use it recreationally. If I were to create rules in sports, they would not be strict. If the drug was to be used illegally or being sold throughout the league, the strict punishment would be enforced. Cannabis is often used to relieve pain or to relax. It is often used in the free time of most people. I would restrict players from using the substance while playing to ensure that they are playing to their true abilities.
ReplyDeleteI believe that the use of cannabis products should be used for specific purposes such as helping athletes overcome pain, and there should be strict regulations to ensure this. Cannabis can help with pain, and I think for some athletes it would help them out a lot. Athletes that struggle with pain could really use cannabis to help them get out on to the field. If it helps them preform to the best of their abilities, they should be able to use it. I would only let the athletes who are in pain use it because they would actually need it for a legitimate reason. Athletes who are perfectly healthy, and do not need it, should not be able to use it. As I said before, they should keep strict regulations because it is unnecessary for them to use it. But they should allow the athletes struggling with injuries to use it because it would really help them out.
ReplyDeleteI think that the use of cannabis products should not be used in sports. these drugs have been illegal for so long, and if athletes are in pain there are other drugs to be used to help relieve pain other than cannabis. Athletes should wait until they're feeling 100% to come back and play instead of using cannabis. I also think that there should be drug tests to make sure this drug is not in athletes systems because it gives them an advantage to preform better.

ReplyDeleteThere is great debate today among states inside our country whether they should choose to legalize cannabis products. There are pros and cons when fully legalizing this into our country. People will be able to handle medical treatment better, however there will be a noticeable spike in accidents caused by this drug, due to slower reaction time. If I were any of the commissioners in charge of the league, I would choose to validate the use of this drug, under certain circumstances. In instances such as when a athlete is recovering from a severe injury, such as a torn ACL, this decision should be up to the athlete. In other cases where the player just wants to casually use this drug, it should be strongly regulated. Many symptoms that can happen after using this drug can include loss in coordination, decreased reaction time, which are all crucial in players performance. Under the current rules in most leagues, there will be a suspension handed down when found using this drug. If I were given the power to decide what the punishment should be after found using this drug, I think there shouldn’t be a severe punishment, but enough to send a clear message to the players to not have this drug interfere with your day to day job as an athlete.
I believe athletes should in fact be able to use cannabis products in major sports leagues such as the NFL, MLB, NBA, etc in certain cases. If the cannabis is legal in the state they are in or the player has a medical license then they should be allowed to do it. But, I don't think any player should be under the influence of cannabis during the game. If i was able to create the rules, I would make them much looser than they are right now, and not be so hard on the players who do it. Just like Max said, i don't believe any league should determine whats right or wrong. If a player is using cannabis illegally then the law should get involved with the situation, not the league. On top of all this this, cannabis is not a performance enhancer so it doesn't give any athletes advantages over others.
ReplyDeleteI do not believe athletes should be able to use cannabis products in major sports leagues like the MLB, NFL, or NBA. In such cases, players believe that cannabis products offer relief to injuries and/or stress. If a player needs such relief, he or she should not be involved in sports anymore. Although cannabis is legalized in many states, it still retains its classification as a psychoactive drug. Allowing players to use marijuana products would hurt the integrity of athletes being role models for younger fans as well. If I were in power of this rule, I would keep the restrictions the same, holding strong convictions that drugs and sports do not mix, and never will.
ReplyDeleteI think the use of cannabis products should be left up to the athletes aside from league and team restrictions. If they want to use it, they should be allowed to as long as it is legal; in legal states it would be no letting athletes drink alcohol or use other recreational drugs. While this usage may be frowned upon, we the fans cannot ultimately decide whether or not they should be allowed to, however owners and professional league administrators can. Each professional sports league should be allowed to decide whether or not whether they will permit their athletes such usage, in addition if the league allows its players to do so, the team should also have the authority to establish rules of usage for their own players.
ReplyDeleteWhether or not the Cannabis products helps the performance of these athletes of subject to vary, but its seems like there is evidence to support that CBD does have serious benefits. If this is the case then like the artile said, it would be irresponsible to ignore these benefits and not explore possible uses in order to find a medium that both satisfies both players who want rule changes and league officials who want to keep it regulated.
I believe that if cannabis is legal in the state in which they take it, then the Nfl, Nba, Mlb, etc. shouldn’t be allowed to say that it’s illegal to use. It is not a performance enhancer. I think the rule should be changed to be the same as the law in that wherever it’s legal to do the drug, it is allowed. That being said, I don’t thing using it durning or before a game should be allowed. I think anyone who is legally allowed to use it should be allowed to use it in pro sports as long as it’s not before or during a game. I would definitely not be more strict in the rules today.
ReplyDeleteI believe that athletes should be allowed to use cannabis. Athletes have such a rigorous schedule and there body takes a toll each season. The rule should be changed to make it the same as the law. allow it after a game but not before or during the game. Mind that cannabis is not a performance enhancing drug it only helps you recover. Since there are so many injuries and sports and every season is really long i feel cannabis would help keep the longevity of athletes in check.
ReplyDeleteI believe it is harmful for athletes to use cannabis in professional sports. There are two sides of it being that one, it can give them negative side effects in the future, and two, it can give them a temporary unfair advantage on the field or court. For example, cannabis has been proven to slow down proteins to the brain and cause Alzheimer's, according to the article. Outside of the negative health effects, it is illegal in most states of the U.S., so it could be frowned upon to use. On the contrary, it could be positive as well. Because of the nerves and adrenaline before events, some athletes most likely use it to limit those sensations. It makes them less tense and more able to perform while feeling relaxed and more confident. If I had a say in whether or not athletes should be able to use marijuana to enhance their performance, I would not let them because of the implications it has on not only themselves, but their team as well as the league they play in. Whether it causes advantages or disadvantages, it is illegal and should not be used in sports. I believe drug tests are crucial in this aspect because of the potential for athletes to use it.
ReplyDeleteI believe that cannabis should be allowed to be used if proscribed by a doctor or is legal in states these athletes are living in. If I had the power to change how strict these leagues are, I would make it allowed for athletes to use weed if it is legal in the state they live in or if it is proscribed by a doctor for an injury. Everyone who is proscribed weed and or lives in states where it is legal would be allowed to use cannabis. I would make the rules less strict and have it so players who wants legal access the weed can get it.
ReplyDeleteI believe that sports players are allowed to use candid products ONLY IF they have a prescription for it. It is still illegal to use these substances, however if you need it for your health it's a different story. If by some reason you see it's affecting how you look/act, like makes you more angry, then I would tell them to stop using it. If I had the power to create/change any rule regarding cannabis products I would allow any players with a medical prescription to use it and allow the players to use it recreationally. That is if they were in a state that allowed that. Yes this rule is would be more strict, but it would be for everyone.
ReplyDelete1. Do you believe athletes should be able to use cannabis products in major sports leagues such as the NFL, MLB, NBA, etc? Why or why not?
ReplyDeleteI believe that athletes should be able to use as an alternative to using opiods which come with major problems.
2. If you had the power to change how strict a certain league was on cannabis products, to what extent would you change the restrictions, if at all?
I would change it so any athlete can use weed and not be penalised.
I believe that athletes should be able to use cannabis products because it can help these athletes in the recovery process. Marijuana has been proven to help people reduce physical and mental stress which can help benefit these athletes. Also, this drug is not a sports enhancing drug so why is it not allowed to be used? If I were to change the leagues view on cannabis products, I would make it so that all athletes and even coaches can use cannabis products.
ReplyDeleteI do think athletes should be able to use cannabis products because it helps them recover after a long, tough game or practice. Also it does not create any unfair advantages for players who do choose to use cannabis products
ReplyDeleteI think athletes should be able to use cannabis products because it has only shown pros. It helps athletes recover mentally. I think as long as they are ok with the affects of smoking, the athletes should be able to use them. It doesn't give the athlete an edge, and its not a performance enhancing drug.
