  1. I think that to a very far extent it should be legal for people to gamble on sports. I think gambling on sports creates a very fun & competitive nature for all fans. I do believe that the government should put a limit on how much an individual is allowed to spend in sports gambling a year. This way people wouldn't be wasting all of their money on gambling and potentially risking debt. I don't believe there are enforced consequences in sports gambling because it happens all around the country, but no one seems to ever get in trouble for it.

  2. Although it is highly unlikely that it benefits the gambler, I still feel that any person should have the right to gamble. Gambling can often add suspense, intrigue, and overall fun to watching sports, no matter how large the bet. I understand the point that gambling can take money out of the pockets of hardworking americans, however in the end it is their choice to spend their money how they choose. Many would argue that watching a game of sports at home with a bet on the line is more fun than going to the game itself, however we do not ban the right to go to a game. Gambling since the beginning of time has been a tradition. There is no reason to change that tradition that still to this day creates ample enjoyment for the masses, just due to the fact that few abuse the right they are given, creating debt and other financial consequences.
Of course there are consequences in sports gambling. There are consequences in everything, potentially. I fully understand that some people do not know how to properly gamble, and can get carried away and lose money. However I feel that there is more overall enjoyment added to sports with legal gambling, and that added enjoyment is more positive than the potential consequences are negative.

  3. I think that gambling should be legal for people because it is their choice to spend their money on things that they want. Although people can waste a lot of money on it, it is completely their choice in regard to how much they would like to spend. Sports fans love to get involved during the games, and betting allows them to watch games with a purpose It adds excitement to games, even though most of the times the odds are against the people who gamble. I also think that since gambling has been around for so long, there is no point for it to be banned now. Yes, there are serious consequences in sports betting. People can lose a lot of their money on betting, which can lead to financial troubles. They also can get addicted to it if they keep on betting. Some people just do not know when to stop.

  4. I think that any person should have the right to gamble. I believe that the government should not be in the business of protecting adult citizens from themselves. I also just think its fun in general to gamble. However, Gambling can ruin lives. I also think that there are many consequences in sports gambling. Sports gambling can lead to financial problems and can lead to addiction.

  5. Gambling can be addictive, but it is legal for anyone to participate in. I don't condone it, and it should be done in someone's free time, and should not be conducted during work hours. There should not be any consequences for sports gambling, so long the gambling is not done by the players themselves, like Pete Rose or Shoeless Joe Jackson. Betting on yourself or another team you're involved with is illegal, and doing so deserves punishment or banishment from the league. Overall, however, sports betting is 100% legal unless given the notice it is not by state or federal law.

  6. I think that gambling should be allowed as long as your the legal age. It should not be relegated by the government. It is people choice to go down the road and gamble, however, it can ruin lives. There should be groups, and help people with an addiction can get. I think that there should be punishments for players found gambling on their own games. Pete Rose however, should not have the ban from the Hall of Fame he possesses. Major infractions, like steroid use, deserve this punishment, but gambling should not.

  7. I think there should be no restrictions on gambling within the realm of sports. I feel this way because it creates a competitive atmosphere within the fan population that can bring people closer together. However, I believe you should not be able to gamble on sports at a certain age. This is because if your below, say 18, sometimes you can be trowing your money away without thinking of the negative consequences of your actions. Secondly, of course there are consequences with gambling in sports, after all it is a gamble. But the less obvious cons include things such as addiction, depression, extreme money loss. These things can be detrimental in some cases casing prison time and in even worse cases death.

  8. I think sports gambling should be allowed but only to a certain extent. there should be a maximum amount of money that you would be allowed to spend/ receive so it wouldn't be as addictive and people wouldn't lose as much money. I do believe that there are consequences in sports gambling because gambling is so addicting and if someone loses over a sports game the repercussions could be very dangerous.

  9. I think that gambling on sports should be legal for people because it is their choice to spend their money on whatever they want. Many people waste a lot of their money on gambling so I think that it is not all fun and games. Gambling creates a very thrilling yet competitive experience for the participants. I do believe that there should be consequences in sports gambling. The government should put limits on how much one person can spend a year or even after six months on sports gambling. People can lose so much of their money by trying to play the game, so this method would help ensure that they aren’t wasting the majority of their income.

  10. I think that gambling is fine just the way it is. I agree with Sam that gambling creates a fun and competitive environment. If people want to spend money to bet on their brackets and believe in them that much then go for it. It isn't against the law and is something fun for people who like competition and want a prize out of it. There is obviously a consequence for the person who loses the gambling bet because they just lost that money and can't get it back. But that is the risk you run in order to have fun sometimes. Gambling is more of a personal opinion and doesn't need regulation.

  11. I believe as long as there can be a way in which gambling in sports can occur without distractions and cruel punishment, it should continue. I believe it is fun for people to be invested in something with their friends to the point where something is at stake. It can be thrilling to win and a disappointment, some bigger than others, to lose. But even without the punishment, the idea of friendly competitiveness is something fun for people to be a part of and I believe it can get intense and that is what makes it fun. While I believe gambling on sports games can be fun, I believe there can be some serious consequences depending on the types of situations you are in. Some of the punishments can be very serious and sometimes dangerous, which can put one at risk as well as his or her surrounding peers and family. Therefore, I think gambling in sports should have some boundaries in regards to safety, but I think the competitive nature should be alive and kept strong.

  12. I think it is completely legal for people/fans to gamble on sports. It is a fun way of challenging friends and enjoying the game you are watching. In most cases, it is a friendly environment where friends, coworkers and even strangers who love the sport come together and bet on their favorite player or team. Yes, it can get out of control and I believe that a way to stop that is if there is a money limit in professional and public gambling. The consequences are losing your money if you don’t win. It is a risky ordeal and each participant should know the pros and cons before contributing.

  13. i think gambling in sports is very complex. Gambling is a serious addiction and can destroy people's lives. Though I may not agree with all the components that go into gambling, I think it should be legal. There are many things in society that are not good for us but are legal. We should allow people to make their own choices even if they aren't the best ones. It is also a very economically profitable business that could help people. This being said I again go back to the issue of gambling. This can literally ruin lives depending on the severity of the gambling. I think it should be regulated and monitored for the amount that is allowed to be gambled but it still should be allowed.

  14. I think gambling on sports is perfectly fine as long as the participants in the events being gambled on are not fixing games, such as the 1919 Blacksox or Pete Rose. We hear so often, the vegas odds favor ____ with a "5.5" point spread, that the stakes of these sporting events determined by statisticians are often times regarded as indicators for who is projected to win. I understand that under certain circumstances gambling is illegal and dangerously addictive, but nonetheless it is part of sports culture, from horseracing to football grids; it's another way people are drawn to sporting events.

I think sports gambling is no different from any other sorts of gambling. The outcome is determined by chance. Sports gambling offers the same dangers as other forms of gambling with addiciton and loss of fortunes, however I think the idea of the simplicity of gambling on the outcome of a team, athlete, or score often times blinds people from the harsh realities that come with the "unlucky" days. I think if anything, gambling on sports can become more addictive due to the idea of hope that one's team will win--we are often times persuaded to favor our favorites and not necessarily consider the most probable outcomes.

  15. Gambling on sports is something that isn't a good thing but is something I don't think should be eliminated. Gambling can be a serious addiction for some people and can really hurt peoples lives, but it is also something that people just do for fun. Even though gambling can be very bad, I believe people still deserve free choice on how they want to spend their money and no one should stop them. If the government were to regulate gambling, at most, I think they should make a limit you can spend on gambling per year based on your income. The only time I think there should be a limit on gambling is if an active athlete is betting on games, this should stay completely illegal.

  16. I think gambling on sports is something that should not be changed. Although it may not be good for the people that are gambling they enjoy doing it and people have been doing it for many years. There are so many ways people can gamble in sports from march madness brackets to horse racing. If you were to take these away from people it would eliminate some of the hype in the sports world. I think that as long as people are gambling safely it should not be eliminated.

  17. I think it should be completely legal for people to gamble on sports. I feel gambling makes watching a paying attention to sports much more eventful and fun to watch. I also feel that since people are gambling their own money they should be allowed to do whatever they want with it including gambling.
I do think there are consequences in sports gambling including potential financial issues and addiction problems. Overall gambling should be up to the people who are betting their own money, not anyone else.

  18. To what extent should it be legal for people to gamble on sports?
I think people should be able to bet on as many sports as they want, and bet whatever they want. As long as there is some governing factor, that keep it fair, like how Vegas Casinos are held to certain standards.
Do you believe there are consequences in sports gambling?
Yes, you can loses money, your house or other things, but you know what your bettin so that means you should be comfortable with losing whatever it is you bet. Also i think the consequences don't matter because you know the risk, i see it kinda like the stock market, you bet on a company and if they do well you make money, and if the bankrupt then you get nothing but you knew that that could happen and no one has a problem with that so I don't understand why it does not translate.

  19. I understand that gambling is an illegal activity that can get out of hand. However, I think that in moderation, it should be acceptable. If someone were to spend a small amount of money on a given sports event, i do not see it as a problem. However, constant gambling with larger quantities of money should not be condoned. The American Gaming Association says "$10.4 billion was wagered on the tournament in 2017, with just $300 million of it wagered legally. That's roughly $20 to $50 per bet." In general, I believe that betting in small amounts should be legal. It is without question that sports gambling comes with consequences. The biggest consequence our nation faces from sports gambling is productivity. As mentioned in the article, "even if just 23.7 million people slack off for an hour during the tournament, that's $615 million in lost productivity. Not just productivity, but gambling can result in several different penalties, like fines or jail time.
